New bodysurfing clinic

A UNIQUE tourist facility to instill surf safety, surf awareness, surf skills, surf enjoyment and surf knowledge and fitness may be approved by the Maroochy Shire Council.

The commercial venture - a body surfing clinic - has been proposed by former Maroochy Shire Council lifeguard Mr Vince Hayes of Coolum.

Mr Hayes is currently the approved body surfing instructor for the Coolum Hyatt and the Lutheran church Heights Youth Camp at Coolum.

He believes that the clinic, once approved, will also support council's initiatives on surf safety and said that there would be co-operation with the duty lifeguard or surf club patrol so no danger would be present for other users of the flagged area.

It is envisaged that a minimum area of beach be licensed for Mr Hayes' use, with the Licensed Area being shifted from beach to beach depending on conditions.
